  • Since we have been home

Chloe was delivered by the kennel to our home which was fantastic considering we had been travelling for 24 hours. She came home better than any other long stay at a kennel. She had lost weight but it appeared to be more like toning than loss of mass and she was given a bath before coming home. She was very sleepy for a few days but she seems to be back to her lazy little self.

While away I bought her some new toys... I could not resist the squid toy.

Her bed did not have enough sun so the patio table cover was good enough.

I had a wonderful surprise in my laundry 24 hours after we got home... a Red Back. Oh yay... there's a poisonous spider in my house... I must be home.

    I planted a a few vegies:

    6 tomatoes

    2 tomatillos

    1 Fairy Tale eggplant.

    To plant:

    1 water melon

    2 zucchinis

The carrots are still growing in the winter bed.

    Baby carrots... yum!

I caught my first Hunstman spider the other day which is certainly a milestone, however it was not without goosebumps and poison (which did not kill it fast enough so I had to resort to the cup method). It was a very challenging catch, on Chloe's doggy den.

I took me most of the day to be brave enough to release it and sadly by then it was dead. (Probably due to the poison).

    Fail, but still all yummy.

  • New Zealand

    Downtown Auckland.

Basically, our brief stay in Auckland was spent going to beaches and wineries.

    View from our room.

    At Muriwai Beach.

    Gannet colony.

The beaches are very soft volcanic sand.

I had been wading in the water when I heard David calling down the beach saying that there were jellyfish on the beach. I promptly, yet careful, exited the water and put my flip flops back on my feet.

    Hallertau Brewbar & Restaurant

We saw this ketchup dispenser in a few places in New Zealand.

On our way to Bethells Beach.

    Hmmmm.... Bluebottle...

  • So far

When we first arrived the air was cool and crisp and the local mountains were covered in snow.

Peka decided that she would love me again. On previous trips she was content to ignore me, however this time she has been my shadow and has been wanting to sleep with us.

    Cement plant on Granville Island.

Macarons at the Granville Island Market.

    My Christmas macaron:
    Gingerbread
(plain biscuits with a gingerbread spiced ganache)

    Pies at The Irish Heather.
The new location has lost lots of is atmosphere which was rather disappointing.

Gingerbread constructing at Tony & Ashlee's.
(Note: graham crackers were used instead of gingerbread)

The night before was a potluck Christmas dinner with my high school friends. There are no pictures from that event because I cleverly left my SD card, but I did have the camera.

    In the city.
    Hotdog stands are great.

Visiting my sister's horse... I even got to ride (only a little after freezing my arse off).

My tiny mutt and my mom.

    My festive little mutt.

Not a white Christmas, however we had a wonderful time opening presents and spending time with family.

  • Family Lunch

    lunch

The cold prawns and salads were made even tastier with the temperature in the very high 30's. The foreground salad is a salad David's mother used to make, snow & sugar snap peas with mango and basil dressing.

Back at home the house has been hot due to the hot weather and no working air conditioners.

     chloe

Chloe has spent the past few days flopping here and there.

    Tonight's experiment:

     dinner

Arepas with my mexi-pork, chipotle sweet potato mash, zucchini and 'forest floor'.

    Second attempt.

To give an idea of scale, the meal above was presented on a side plate with fries (actually potato chips) and mini gherkins (aka pickles).

The bun in the second photo was baked by yours truely.
